How to Limit or Turn Off Comments on Facebook
Limit who can comment on your public posts and understand when Facebook offers a per-post comment control.
Open Menu, Settings and privacy, Settings, and find Audience and visibility. Tap Followers and public content, then Who can comment on your public posts? Choose Friends for the narrowest global option in the current Android flow and tap Save. This screen does not include an Off option; check an individual post's menu for additional controls when available.
Before you start
This setting applies to public posts on your profile. People tagged in a public post and their friends may still be able to comment. Facebook uses different comment controls for profiles, Pages, groups, live videos, and individual posts, so the available options can vary.
Follow the steps
Open Audience and visibility
Tap Menu, expand Settings and privacy, and tap Settings. Scroll to Audience and visibility and choose Followers and public content.
Open the public-post comment setting
Tap Who can comment on your public posts? The current choice appears below the setting name.
Choose who can comment
Choose Public, Friends of friends, or Friends. Friends is the narrowest option shown here. Read the note about tagged people, then tap Save if you changed the selection.
A couple of useful details
Can I turn off comments on every Facebook post?
The reviewed profile setting does not offer a global Off option. Its choices are Public, Friends of friends, and Friends. Some individual posts and other Facebook surfaces may offer additional comment controls.
What is the most restrictive option for public profile posts?
Friends is the narrowest choice shown in the current Android profile setting. Facebook notes that people tagged in the post and their friends may still be able to comment.
Does this change who can see the post?
No. The post audience controls who can see it. This setting controls who is allowed to comment on public posts.
Can I use a different setting for one post?
Facebook says you can update the comment setting on individual public posts without changing the account-wide setting. Open the post's options and look for a comment-audience control.
