How to Post Anonymously in a Facebook Group
Use anonymous participation or a group nickname when the group and your account support it.
Open the group and check the posting identity beside Write something. Use an anonymous option if offered; some groups instead offer Create a nickname. Review who can still see your main profile before posting. The screenshots below show the nickname setup, and an admin may need to approve your post.
Before you start
Anonymous group participation is not complete anonymity. Facebook states in the reviewed nickname setup that admins, moderators, and Facebook's systems can still see the main profile name and photo. Details in the post itself may also reveal who wrote it.
If you see an anonymous participation option
Choose the anonymous option offered by the group, read Facebook's privacy notice, and check the identity shown before submitting your post. The label may be Anonymous participant or Anonymous member. Your group may require approval before the post appears.
The screenshots below show the nickname option available to the account tested, rather than a separate walkthrough of the anonymous-label option.
If you see Create a nickname
A nickname gives you a separate display name and image in the group. It is a different presentation from an anonymous label. In the reviewed setup, the nickname becomes your default group identity until changed; check the selected identity before posting again.
If neither option appears
Do not assume that a regular post will hide your profile. Check the group's participation options or ask an administrator whether anonymous participation is available. If Facebook does not offer an anonymous or nickname choice to your account in that group, this walkthrough cannot enable it.
Participate with a nickname
Open a group that supports anonymous participation
Open Groups, choose the group, and find the Write something composer. The option is controlled by group availability and settings.
Change the identity for the post
Tap the small profile or identity selector beside Write something. Choose an anonymous option or Create a nickname if Facebook offers it.
Read the privacy limits and continue
Review who can see your main profile. Customize the suggested nickname if desired, finish setup, write the post, and submit it. Check whether the group says approval is required.
A couple of useful details
Why don't I see an anonymous option?
The group must support anonymous participation and make it available to you. Some groups show a nickname option, some show an anonymous label, and others offer neither.
Can group admins see who posted?
Yes. Admins and moderators, as well as Facebook's systems, can see the identity behind anonymous or nickname participation.
What is a group nickname?
It is a separate display name and image used in that group. In the reviewed flow it hides the main profile from ordinary members but becomes the default group identity until changed.
Will the post appear immediately?
Not always. Group settings may require an administrator or moderator to approve anonymous posts or edits before publication.
